A crispy, cheesy, and spicy twist on traditional schnitzel using halloumi and homemade hot honey. Perfect for a bold weeknight dinner or a cozy weekend lunch.

Ingredients

1 block halloumi cheese, sliced (½ inch thick)

½ cup all-purpose flour

2 large eggs, beaten

1 cup panko breadcrumbs

⅓ cup honey

½ tsp chili flakes or hot sauce

1 tsp apple cider vinegar or lemon juice

Neutral oil for frying

Fresh thyme or flaky salt (for garnish)

Instructions

1. Pat halloumi slices dry with paper towels.

2. Set up breading station: flour, eggs, breadcrumbs.

3. Coat halloumi in flour, then egg, then breadcrumbs.

4. Let coated slices rest for 10 minutes.

5. Heat oil in skillet over medium heat.

6. Fry halloumi 2–3 mins per side until golden brown.

7. In a saucepan, warm honey, chili, and vinegar.

8. Drizzle hot honey over schnitzel immediately before serving.

9. Top with fresh thyme or flaky salt.

Notes

Use gluten-free crumbs if needed.

Store leftover hot honey in a jar at room temp.

Serve with fresh salad, slaw, or mashed sweet potatoes.
